One More Reason Why NYC is Not Normal

In November, 4% of my company was laid off due to budget cuts. My office manager was one of the employees to get the boot. Since now no one is here to sign for deliveries and distribute mail, we all tend to fill in as need be.
Today I picked up an office bill that came in for our old office manager. The bill was from the company that waters our office plants and polishes their leafs once a week. Yes, each of the 15 offices at work has a desk plan that is watered by a service every week. Little Hispanic men come in with bags filled with water and hydrate the plant on my desk. Every now and then they deem the plant "old" and by the next week, the plant is replaced with a new luscious green plant. The first time I saw the "old" plant carried off for disposal I grew angry and told the Hispanic gentlemen to leave the plant with me, and I would care for him. (This only lasted a few months before my boss told me it was not my job to host a vegetation nursing home in the corner of my office and I needed to give the plants back.)

So today, my Hispanic friend handed me the bill on his way out the door.

And there it was. One more reason why NYC is not normal.
